♥ Character; Xellos Metallium ♥ Series/Fandom; The Slayers (NEXT, TRY, premium, etc) ♥ Original or Template version; Original ♥ Age; 1,000+ (approximately 1,012) ♥ Gender; Technically, Xellos is genderless--but he seems to enjoy taking the form of a male human. ♥ Species; Mazoku (literally, a race or family who opposes God; a demon; a monster) ♥ Sexuality: Asexual (no sex)

♥ Appearance: This is going to be based off of Xellos’ manga appearance.) Like all extremely powerful mazoku, Xellos prefers to take a human form in order to lull others into a false sense of security. He chooses to mimic a human to the extent that he can actually bleed to further this illusion. His true mazoku form is, like all mazoku, what is basically "black matter." Xellos isn't an intimidating looking man in the slightest. He has a head of dark hair, black with a raven sheen. It's cut bluntly, just above shoulder length with betty bangs. In my admittance, a dorky, if not effeminate cut. He's at an unimpressive 5'7", and with the visage of a priest to boot. Smiling by default, Xellos usually walks around with a pair of closed, upturned eyes, as though in a permanent state of happy. Whenever Xellos’ eyes are open, rare though it is, they appear catlike (in that his iris and pupils are slits), cold and sinister, without any reflection of light. The clothing he appears to wear and his staff are all part of his physical manifestation and can become as incorporeal as the rest of him (for example, in the fifth Slayers novel, he was able to slip away from Amelia Wil Tesla Saillune even though she had a tight grip on his clothing). As far as clothing goes, Xellos wears a pair of loose black pants, wrapped in beige cloth at the ankles wherein the pants meet his brown boots. There's a beige sash of the same material hugged around his waist, over his pants and a beige turtleneck. His hands are typically obscured in white gloves, and over the beige shirt, he has a black shall that falls about just above his elbow. The shall is held together off center to his chest with three metal plates, the first of the three bearing three red ambulates. The shall itself has a gold stripe going along the edge, top and bottom outlined in red. Between the red lines and against the gold, there is a pattern of red-lined rectangles. Along with his smile, Xellos isn't even seen without his staff--a gnarled, twisted wooden staff that ends in a point with bandages around where Xellos usually holds it, and it comes up in something of a fork to hold a large red orb. Part of why Xellos is probably scarcely seen without this is because it's likely part of his being, seeing as it materializes along with the rest of him in this form.
secret!
♥ Personality; Despite his high ranking and dangerous abilities, Xellos is rather like a playful trickster, answering to almost all his questions with "that's a secret." He seems to delight in the frustration that ensues with his withholding of information. Like all mazoku, Xellos thrives off of negative emotion as a form of sustenance; the more suffering there is around him, the healthier Xellos feels. Logically, positive emotions weaken him. So while he finds praying on people's happiness an entertaining activity, it's also a necessary one. It's not in the nature of his species to be kind for the very reason that it's unhealthy! Xellos' true intentions always seem to be a mystery. It's difficult to get anything out of a man who answers everything so deadpan as being a secret and tends to be so private. Most always, Xellos acts as a wallflower. For this reason, people tend to underestimate him. In addition to his sometimes kiss-ass demeanor and generally happy mood, he seems like quite a harmless guy. Despite that, while he may be quietly on the sidelines, he has a very subtle way of manipulating the situation so as to suit his goal--whatever that may be. Xellos often introduces himself as the Trickster Priest for good reason - he will mislead or cheat in order to get his purpose accomplished (It is argued whether he ever said an outright lie, as most of his clues usually have at least a fraction of truth in them. I suppose he likes to bend the truth). Despite his enormous powers, he prefers subtlety and manipulation over violence, although when Xellos does enter a battle, he is known to be a ruthless opponent. Obviously, Xellos doesn't like to draw attention to himself, and he's rather passive-aggressive. When the time is right or if he's been commanded, however, Xellos can easily drop the cute act and get serious. When Xellos’ intent becomes murderous, he's downright terrifying. In this light, Xellos’ true nature as a mazoku becomes more apparent: he acts far less human, but doesn't seem to drop his sarcasm. As a mazoku, he has the common goal his to return the universe into the nothingness of the Sea of Chaos (basically a void), but near the end of the series he aids the story's hero, Lina, and her company in saving the world instead. Of course, he insists it's because the mazoku want to destroy the world--someone else at the time was going to be held accountable for the world's destruction, which wasn't okay with him. Even though he tends to manipulate Lina and the others, he has saved their lives on few occasions, such as saving Martina Zoana Mel Navratilova from bandits for no apparent reason, and saving a dragon woman named Filia (despite that ryuzoku and mazoku are sworn enemies). The reasons for doing so are never given which leads Xellos to be one of the many enigmas of the series. It's safe to bet, however, that this somehow aids some plan he's already set in motion. Xellos seldom does something without reason. Xellos is extremely loyal to Zellas Metallium, his lord and creator, and usually acts only if ordered, (although at times he has aided Lina's group without having been ordered by Zellas) and it is assumed that he would gladly follow any of her requests in order to keep her pleased, even if he is not pleased with them himself. Suffice to say, Xellos isn't used to acting independently, and has been this way for over a thousand years! Xellos tends to be two faced, as already described. Other than that, Xellos is rather polite. He tends to anger people through other people, using them as his tools for entertainment, not wanting to stir up aggression first handedly for the trouble it causes on his head. While Xellos is typically rather composed, he very easily looses his control around Filia Ul Copt, a golden ryuzoku priestess. Being mortal enemies, it's obvious they wouldn't get along--but whoever thought they'd be so immature about it. The two sling immature insults and get in such a huff, it was almost shocking to Lina and the others to see Xellos behave in such a way. Filia is probably the only person who can effectively get under his skin. Despite having not gotten along at all at first--and they still don't, Xellos and Filia both developed a rather shaky respect for each other (though Filia's might be more stemmed from fear, since Xellos is the mazoku who single-handedly killed almost all of her people). Xellos, at least, considers Filia of no threat. Especially since by the end of the series, Filia is the last of her kind.

♥ Strengths/Abilities; Xellos possesses all the abilities of a high-level mazoku, including the ability to teleport with items or even people, and also the ability to maintain an incredibly detailed projected form, mimicking even the insides of the human body. Xellos is widely considered to be the most powerful mazoku under the five mazoku lords, the lords created from what would be the satanic equal in the Slayers universe (suffice to say, only the mazoku lords themselves are likely stronger than Xellos). As such he is nearly immune to all Black Magic, only the spells that call upon Shabranigdo (said Satan figure) or the lords can even faze him; however, he is vulnerable to spells that use the power of the Lord of Nightmares (someone like God--not in the holy stance, but in being the creator or everything. A deity figure, if anything), such as Giga Slave, though given his speed it is unlikely that he would allow someone to cast the spell against him. Immensely powerful, Xellos is capable of annihilating nearly anything using his own power. This is best shown by his destruction of an entire clan of golden dragons, or golden ryuzoku. However, he tends to underestimate his opponents, leading to himself getting beaten severely by an ancient ryuzoku/mazoku hybrid by the name of Valgaav. Like all mazoku, Xellos can teleport anywhere he can imagine by phasing to and from the Astral Side (called "astral bending" or "phasing"). Abilities aside, Xellos is extremely manipulative and cold; he doesn't really feel any deep emotions, and he's difficult to offend. Xellos has never been displayed as being honestly upset. Another strength of Xellos's would be his ability to operate on the mode of a cheerful priest. He never specifies that he’s a priest of the occult and dark arts under the rule of Shabranigdo, bent on destroying the universe, and just plays off on whatever people assume the title of "priest" to hold. His ability to bend the truth and hold up this persona for the sake of manipulating others so well that it’s second nature is astounding. Though, even in the presence of his Lord, Xellos seems to hold the same cheerful behavior, despite that Zellas is the only person who could see through Xellos' tricks, most likely (not that he'd want to deceive her). So it's not exactly an act. Perhaps it's a personality trait that happens to work in his favor. You never really know with Xellos… :> ♥ Weaknesses; Xellos is nearly invincible, and it's likely a good thing to not have Xellos as your enemy. On the other hand, he's easy to subdue: optimistic talk of justice, friendship, sunshine and all that good stuff sends Xellos spiraling into a weakened state of depression. Other than that, Xellos can be defeated through magic that borrows directly from the power of The Lord of Nightmares. There are a few other spells, such as magic that Gaav and Valgaav used against Xellos. However, since Gaav's deaths, his spells are nullified (no one can borrow his power to cast the spells).
♥ History; During the War of the Monster‘s Fall--a super historical event in Slayers that took place some thousand years ago from the canon timeline, in order to prevent the intervention of the shinzoku (race of the gods) and ryuzoku, four of the five mazoku Lords created a barrier around the northern part of the continent. This kept the ryuzoku and shinzoku out, but also prevented the lords from moving too far. In order so that they could still act with impunity in the world, all the mazoku lords except one created generals and priests, mostly one of each. The exception was Greater Beast Zellas Metallium, who put all that power into one being, Xellos, instead. Still, he only holds the title of a priest--Xellos commands no army, as he's the army himself. Xellos played a major part in the War of the Monster's Fall. While Chaos Dragon Gaav (mazoku Lord) and Shabranigdo (who was controlling a human's body) fought with Aqualord Ragradia (another mazoku lord), Xellos completely annihilated a clan of Dragons with a simple wave of the finger. After that war, Xellos was assigned the task of finding every manuscript of the Claire Bible--basically all the knowledge of the known universe recorded in stone, and destroying it. This likely attributes to Xellos' intelligence; not only is he naturally a clever thing, but from finding the manuscripts, Xellos probably overlooked their contents before destroying them. This task took Xellos one thousand years. Of course, with a benefit to reap such as the universe’s infinite knowledge, Xellos wasn't the only one pursuing the Claire Bible (likely, Xellos had to fend off many mazoku, humans and shinzoku alike in his mission). This is how Xellos met Lina Inverse, a young sorceress intent on expanding her magic. And with the infinite knowledge of the Claire Bible, what a better way to do it than consult this source? This was somewhat meddlesome at first to Xellos. It's then that Lina--long story short, became involved with the mazoku lord Gaav. This was because of Xellos, partially; Gaav wanted to wring out information out of Xellos. Apparently, his mission plan shifted half way through the series, and Xellos was under order of the mazoku lord known as Hellmaster Phibrizzo for the time (despite that privately, Xellos seemed to disagree with this motive, but obeyed regardless). Gaav wanted to know what Hellmaster Phibrizzo was up to, and so attempted to beat it out of Xellos. Even after being torn in half across his torso from Gaav's assault, Xellos didn't confess, insisting still with a smile that it was a secret. Gaav opted to kill them all instead, and despite Lina's attempts to kill him at the side of her friends--their most powerful opponent yet, Gaav did not die. He effortlessly threw aside their attacks, but when things looked their worst, Hellmaster Phibrizzo came and killed Gaav with a simple snap of his fingers. Xellos had been absent at this time, having teleported back to the astral plane to recover. By the time Xellos returned, he witnessed the death of Phibrizzo, delivered by Lina. Apparently, Lina had channeled The Lord of Nightmares through the Giga Slave, just as Phibrizzo wanted. Apparently, Phibrizzo's main goal--being a mazoku, was to destroy the world and return it to the Sea of Chaos. Phibrizzo was planning on obtaining this goal by having Lina use the Giga Slave, which borrows power from The Lord of Nightmares herself. The spell was successful, and not only had she channeled The Lord of Nightmares, Lina was momentarily possessed. Xellos was awed, and since, has had an admiration for Lina since. As a mazoku, he’s attracted to such a chaotic being. Several months passed and the barrier put in place by the mazoku lords had been broken, and as a result, Lina Inverse and her friends were allowed access to the outside world. There they become wrapped up in a prophecy stating that a dark lord from another dimension, Dark Star, will enter their world and spread chaos. This prophecy is given by none other than the golden ryuzoku priestess by the name of Filia. Xellos participated in this charade, though no one was sure what he was up to. As it turned out, he had orders under Zellas to assist Lina and the others against this other worldly threat (shockingly). As said before, Xellos explains that the mazoku would much rather take the world for themselves. Though he's been involved with Lina and the others for some time, Xellos isn't particularly attached to any of them. Perhaps to Lina for his devilish intrigue, but he wouldn't hesitate to kill her and her friends if ordered. Such a time did indeed occur. Lina was about twenty years old when at last, Zellas' impish meddling had gone far enough to interfere with Lina directly. Like usual, Lina banded with her friends, and it was another epic adventure--this time, against Xellos. Before Lina came to the Beast Master Zellas, Xellos intended to defend his lord. Unfortunately for him, Xellos met his end at Lina's hand. While he saw something like regret in her eyes, he held nothing but satisfaction to meet his end with the spell of The Lord of Nightmares, and to be executed at Lina's hands. Xellos accepted his death. However, the strangest thing happened! Xellos found himself becoming conscious--and he wasn't on the astral plane. The ground beneath him was cold, and he could feel its gritty texture. Upon sitting up, he noted that he’d lost contact with the astral plane. No longer could he channel himself to and from the astral plane. Further, this form wasn't a mere projection from the astral plane (sometimes Xellos liked to remain in the astral plane and merely project his form on the physical). Rather, he did get in touch with another plane, unaware it was the second, digital level, finding this strange indeed…
